During the Thursday evening, the City Building Board decided on a package of measures aimed at arranging the rental electric bicycles in Helsingborg. Common complaints are that electric scooter bikes are driven in traffic or parked carelessly.

- What is more offensive than previous measures is that we place a greater responsibility on the person who uses the services, says Christian Orsing (M), who is chairman of the city building board.

Helsingborg first out with the method

Now police, security guards and parking guards will be able to read and report misused or mis-parked electric scooters to the rental companies. They can in turn turn off the user who rented the electric scooter.

- It means that we now have many eyes and ears out in the city, what I know we are the first in the country with this, says Christian Orsing.

Calls for state action

The city's opportunities to control how electric scooters are handled are legally limited. Most of the measures depend on the leasing operators wanting to cooperate.

- That collaboration works well and we are generally positive for electric scooters. But what we need is a national line, state laws and regulations have not kept up with this technological development, says Christian Orsing.

A state investigation into the regulations for electric scooters is already underway and will be reported next year.
