Violent demonstrations against Jovenel Moses took place in the provinces on Thursday. Several official buildings were burned down and at least one person was killed in the town of Léogâne. A climate that forced the authorities to minimize the official ceremonies of October 17, the date of the assassination of the father of the nation Jean-Jacques Dessalines.

Thursday morning, contrary to previous years, the president did not go to the place where was assassinated Jean-Jacques Dessalines in 1806. Jovenel Moïse proceeded only to a fast deposit of flowers in the museum of the National Pantheon.

When he came out, he had a few words for the people: " Today is a day that allows the Haitian people to understand that their real enemy, the enemy who wants to prevent them from moving forward, are people who have the capacity to perpetuate this system that generates misery, which generates poverty, which generates exclusion, "he said.

That Jovenel Moise poses while fighting the "system" is unacceptable for demonstrators like Vélina Charlier: " It's the system that put her in power, " she says. At the time, the system was good for him, but today we understand that he is the guardian of the system, that he is a prisoner of the system. So more reason for him to resign and leave us the way to end this system of social inequalities. "

Only a few hundred people demonstrated Thursday in the capital, but the streets remained deserted. The paralysis of activities continues in the face of the precarious political climate.
