What is happening in the region of Miski, Tibesti, an area of lawlessness in northeastern Chad? Difficult to say exactly as the area is difficult to access. But the Miski Self-Defense Committee, which has been in control of the area for almost a year, and Chadian civil society have been warning of a new outbreak of violence since early October.

The violence has resumed for two weeks, with an offensive by the Chadian army on the town of Arkinya, about twenty kilometers from Miski.

Simple clashes, fights in order ... the incidents would have multiplied since then, ensures the coordinator of the Committee of self-defense of Miski, Molly Sougui, since its European exile.

These clashes would have taken a larger extent since the beginning of the week. First Monday, with the attack of a rear-base of the Chadian army by Miski fighters. Then Wednesday, when government troops launched an attack on Yebbibou.

In both cases, Molly Sougui claims a victory for his troops. Information difficult to cross in this totally isolated region.

A specialist in the region and people from the Toubou tribes that populate this part of Chad confirm these clashes, but are unable to measure the extent.

Government side, it's complete radio silence for two weeks. Everyone sends the ball back to the camp of the powerful Minister in charge of National Defense and Public Security, Mahamat Abba Ali Salah, who does not respond to the solicitations of journalists.

But a sign of renewed tension in this part of Tibesti, a military source acknowledges that reinforcements continue to be sent into the area, while the defense minister and the army chief of staff, the General Taher Erda, have been in Faya-Largeau for at least three days from where they would supervise the ongoing operations in the sub-prefecture of Yebbibou.
