An Iranian woman recounts an inspirational experience with breast cancer

"The beginning was with breast cancer 14 years ago, and when I recovered from it I almost flew with joy, but I did not imagine the moment that he wrote to confront him again, where I died for the fourth time in more than a year." This is how Iranian Linda Berenji began her story with cancer.

She continues to tell her story to Al Jazeera Net, and says that she remedied the matter quickly, and decided to take up the challenge with malignant disease rather than surrender to sadness, and triumphed after a year during which she underwent radiation therapy, and acquiesced to the diagnosis of the doctor the need to eradicate her breasts.

Linda did not forget what she called "humanitarian and manliness" her husband "Mohsen" to stand with her and support her throughout their married life, especially during periods of illness, which Mohsen describes as less duty towards his partner.

She continued to smile and energy, stressing that she was drawing energy and violence from her family when she saw that their love for her had not changed, and that they were waiting to celebrate her recovery with impatience.

Her emphasis on family support as a catalyst for disease outbreak coincides with the announcement of the Iranian Breast Cancer Awareness, Prevention, and Prevention Campaign that around 60% of men leave their wives after seeing their symptoms of cancer, which adversely affects the course of treatment and the severely affected psyche. She says that her acceptance of the disease and her belief in the passage of these difficult days, helped her to endure the hardships of treatment and pain during his return and injury of lymph nodes, and then spread in the lungs, until he returned for the fourth time, where her lungs again.

As for her experience with the disease, she pointed out that the psyche of the patient controls the course of treatment and the rate of success, the more he maintained his spirits high the treatment was less harmful because of the strengthening of the immune system, explaining that she recovered more than a year from cancer, but still receive doses of radiation therapy.

Dr. Afsana Iqbal Niya, at a conference on "Breast Cancer Awareness, Prevention and Control" held last week in Tehran, revealed that one Iranian woman is infected every 40 minutes, noting that national statistics show that two out of every eight women are infected.

She said that fear and panic may kill the patient more than symptoms of breast cancer, which proved to be treatable, stressing that she suffered twice a heart attack during treatment, as she felt her soul out of her feet and climbed very quickly upward through the Noor channel.

She added that other signs that warn of the possibility of breast cancer is the direction of the nipples inward, or the appearance of scales or stains on them, or exposure to bleeding.

According to the Iranian Ministry of Health, breast cancer tops the list of malignant diseases in Iran (32%), followed by prostate cancer (17%) and skin cancer (14%). Accordingly, it launched two programs at the national level; early diagnosis and treatment within the approved plans to combat these diseases, as the most common in the country.

According to the latest official data published by the Institute of Cancer Research at Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences, the proportion of people with breast cancer is doubling by 6% annually, and the number of women with this type of cancer is increasing by 13,000 each year.

The Ministry of Health categorizes cancer as the second factor in the death of citizens after heart disease, and that the number of people currently infected with about 250 thousand cases, of which 56 thousand die annually, in addition to the number is increasing 110 thousand new infections every year.

In its cancer control programs, the Iranian health ministry focuses on early diagnosis, plans for “preventive screening” to start treatment in the initial stages, before the onset of symptoms, and launched six years ago national campaigns to fight cancer and diagnose it early, in order to reduce the spread of its symptoms and complications.

Over the past decades, the Iranian Ministry of Health has conducted awareness campaigns through its network of centers throughout the country, so that all Iranian women can conduct a self-examination to diagnose breast cancer, stressing that the diagnosis in its early stages significantly increases the success rate.
