• Protest: The Madrid Metro machinists keep the strike, with minimum services of 58%
  • Announcement: Hiring 300 new drivers for Metro does not prevent the strike

All the information screens of the Madrid Metro woke up on Thursday morning with a phrase: "Strike today 17" . In this way, users were informed that the transport service would have problems in the circulation of all lines throughout the day. The reason? Through the same devices, it was explained that it was "a consequence of the 24-hour strike , convened by the Machinists Collective union". Therefore, it was detailed that for this day "minimum services" of 58% have been established.

During the first hours of suburban service, among the ravages that the users felt, as a result of the protest, were the delay of trains and the great accumulation of people in wagons and platforms.

To avoid these inconveniences, in each station multiple audio messages were reproduced in which the collaboration of the people was requested to avoid the agglomeration and apologized for the inconvenience .

The driver's strike began at 06:00 and is scheduled to extend until 02:00 in the morning on Friday.

But the traffic difficulties became more noticeable in large stations such as Sol. These facilities, which pass three Metro lines, dawned with crowded platforms . This was stated by Douglas Diaz, a user of line 1. He said he had to wait 10 minutes for a train to arrive. "I take the Metro in Nueva Numancia and after waiting a long time, I couldn't get on the train , there were a lot of people."

The same thing happened to Rodrigo Carrasco, another user of line 3. He also reported that I wait more than usual to move from the Hospital October 12 to Sol. "I usually wait a maximum of 5 minutes, today wait 8. The difference does not it's a lot but I could arrive on time, "he said.

However, the difficulties after 8:30 were reduced . In Sol, the platforms and corridors were seen with a normal circulation. The trains also began to travel with a usual frequency and the users had no problems.

For example, on line 2 that goes to Cuatro Caminos, a train passed every three minutes . Álvaro, a university student, said that although he knew about the strike, he did not notice any difficulty in circulation.
