The parties in the Riksdag voted on Wednesday through the proposal to raise the retirement age. It is believed that Swedes today live longer and healthier lives, so we can work longer.

But one industry that is now concerned about the new decision is, among other things, the construction industry. In physical professions you cannot work for long. This is what members of the Building Association, who have already heard of concerns about the new decision.

- It's a bit different how long you can work. Some may not be able to survive for more than 55 years, says Mats Johansson, elected representative of Byggnads.

Various suggestions for a solution

Mats Johansson thinks that graduates will come out later in the job market, while carpenters, for example, in many cases get a permanent job right after high school.

- We have already worked for 10 years when an academic has completed, he says.

Having different retirement ages in different industries is an option that is discussed at different workplaces. But the consequence of this is that it can be considered unfair that, for example, carpenters may retire earlier than a teacher, even if their everyday life is more physically tiring.

Therefore, Mats Johansson believes that it can be regarded as unfair that the retirement age is the same regardless of occupation. One idea he has when the retirement age has now been raised further is that instead of old age, you retire after a number of working years.

- This is how we work for as long, regardless of the industry.
