“The purpose of the temporary investigative commission is to prevent monopolization in the information and television broadcasting markets, to limit the influence of the Russian Federation on the information space and to counter threats to national security in the information space,” the website of the Ukrainian parliament says.
The main task of the commission will be to verify the circumstances of the acquisition of these channels.
It is also planned to check the information “regarding the systematic dissemination by certain Ukrainian television channels of ideas and theses that could threaten the interests of national security, defense and the territorial integrity of Ukraine”.
In September, it was reported that the National Broadcasting Council of Ukraine decided to go to court to revoke the license for NEWSONE and close it.
The council also announced an unscheduled inspection of ZIK.
