The new shelter in Nyköping will be located on Brunnsgatan 35, in the old cinema Grand's premises.

- In the agreement we have, we will provide ten places, so-called emergency places. There are eight places for men and two for women. In addition, day operations will be able to accommodate significantly more people, says Tomas Lindroos, director at Eskilstuna City Mission.

The meeting point which is currently conducting day operations in Nyköping will continue until the end of the year when it is closed down.

How does this differ from the meeting point?

- The meeting point has never run any shelter, so there has never been any emergency accommodation like that in Nyköping. So it's a whole new business. That's the big difference.

So this is the first time homeless people in Nyköping get anywhere to sleep?

- Yes, that way. I think Nyköping Municipality has certainly had other solutions to help, maybe hotels or hostels. But you should also know that this shelter is a complement to other activities that exist within the municipality.

Must be ready by the end of the year

During the autumn, the business will start to be rebuilt to be approved to sleep in, even kitchens and toilets will be completed. The goal is for the business to get underway at the beginning of next year.

- Should there be any delay, we would like to open a day business. But we work with everything we can to make it ready for the turn of the year.
