Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte said Thursday he was slightly injured after falling off a motorbike in his yard but was recovering well.

"I want to assure the nation that President Salim is in good hands and in good health," said Duterte spokesman Salvador Panillo.

He told a news conference that Duterte was riding a motorcycle in the courtyard of the presidential palace late on Wednesday and fell as he tried to reach his shoes and suffered minor bruises and scratches on the eyebrow and knee.

Senator Christopher, a close associate of Duterte, said that "the president fell while trying to rotate by motorcycle and was hit in the thigh."

It is noteworthy that the President's fondness for motorcycles has been accompanied by a permanent injury to the tendons of the neck and caused him a frequent migraine headaches among many health problems, which makes his disappearance from view a source of widespread speculation.

Duterti once boasted that he had speeds of up to 180 kilometers per hour and that he had motorcycles of the Yamaha, Honda and Harley-Davidson models.
