No trains will run between Hoofddorp and Leiden on Thursday due to a damaged overhead line. NS expects the nuisance to last until 9 p.m. and advises travelers to "avoid this route where possible".
Buses are used, but that number is limited, NS reports. Stop buses are used between Hoofddorp and Leiden. Travelers between The Hague and Schiphol must travel on Thursday via Utrecht Centraal. The delay can be up to sixty minutes.
The defective overhead line was caused by a damaged train. As a result, some fourteen hundred travelers were stranded this morning. ProRail reports that the catenary damage between Hoofddorp and Leiden is great: the catenary appears to have been damaged over a distance of 4.5 kilometers.
Railway workers work with man and power to restore the catenary as quickly as possible. ProRail hopes to release the route for train traffic at 9 p.m.
