In the first statement of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad after the Turkish aggression on northeastern Syria, Bashar al-Assad pledged on Thursday to confront the Turkish aggression on Syrian territory, "through all legitimate and available means."

According to the official Syrian news agency (SANA) that Assad stressed that «the external ambitions of the countries of our region did not stop throughout history, and the Turkish criminal aggression launched by the regime of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to our country currently falls under those ambitions no matter what false slogans, it is a blatant invasion and aggression Clearly, Syria responded to it in more than one place by hitting its agents and terrorists ».

The Syrian president's remarks came during a meeting with Iraqi National Security Advisor Faleh al-Fayyad, carrying a message from Iraqi Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi on Thursday.

Assad vowed to "respond to the Turkish aggression and confront it in all its forms in any region of Syrian territory, through all legitimate means available."

The official SANA news agency quoted a source in the Foreign Ministry as saying that his country affirms "the cohesion and unity of the Syrians more than ever under the banner of the national flag in confronting the treacherous Turkish aggression", reiterating its absolute rejection and strong condemnation.

The Syrian Foreign Ministry considered that the Turkish aggression «deal a severe blow to the efforts to find a way out of the crisis in Syria, and thus the Turkish regime loses the guarantor position within the framework of Astana», referring to the talks hosted by the capital of Kazakhstan under the auspices of Moscow and Tehran supportive of Damascus and Ankara supporting the opposition and resulted in the agreement to form a committee Constitutional to settle the conflict that has been going on since 2011.
