2009 - Macedonia and Kosovo settle their border dispute. The parliaments of both countries ratify a special state treaty in special sessions.
1999 - In London, the largest ferris wheel in the world, the 137-meter-high "London Eye", is completed. The ferris wheel for up to 1000 people starts operation in March 2000.
1989 - The controversial novel "The satanic verses" by Salman Rushdie is delivered in a German translation, which comes out in the by a publisher consortium specially founded "Article 19 publishing house".
1989 - In San Francisco, 63 people are killed in a magnitude 6.9 earthquake. The financial damage amounts to more than seven billion US dollars. The so-called Loma Prieta quake is considered to be the strongest quake in the region since 1906.
