Ana Fernandez-Villaverde (Bilbao, 1972). His new album, Witchcraft (Elefant Records), the sixth of his career, is full of love sorcerers. This Friday he will have a talk in Barcelona and next month he will play in Madrid.

Do I call you Well Dear? Ana? Ana is fine. Tell me a little about the name. It was the first one that occurred to me. I chose it because it was what I wanted: to be well liked. And I still want the same. And there hasn't been any time to hate the name? I don't know, there is a moment when I see it so naturally that it doesn't mean anything anymore. I remember that my name came out and I went to Google. There was nothing for Good Darling. Now there are a thousand restaurants and a wine. The only thing there was was a Mexican movie, La mal querida , and I liked that too because the name evokes some popular songs. I say this because the artistic name is supposed to be a way to distance oneself, not to take it Seriously. Laughing at oneself is what we need most. Common sense and sense of humor are the pillars of society. Do you like intense artists? Of all types I like them. Lately I listen to Cigarrettes After Sex, with its lyrics of tormented relationships and such. Can you explain the album? I was reading a book by Alan Moore, fossil angels . What he comes to say is that any artistic manifestation is like a spell you cast into the universe. Any manifestation or any thought or desire. That is why we talk about "be careful what you want" and we give so many turns to positive thinking. Following that, I began to think of the songs as spells. And that's where the esoteric concept comes from. Does it happen a lot about looking for ideas outside of music? In a book or in a picture ... It happens to me. The conversations I listen to, the phrases I read in the newspaper ... Do you listen to music when you compose? The more music I listen to is when I compose. I put New Order and it happens to me that each song of his suggests a melody. What does it depend on whether or not to take a composition day? A good day is the best there is. Know that you have a song and go out for two beers, to pay tribute. Because it is normal to be dissatisfied, pursue something and not find it. I've been making records for years and every time it seems more difficult. Why? Because you are afraid to repeat yourself, but people want that, they want you to repeat yourself. What do you like about this album? I don't know. And if you look at the past, do you know what songs you like and why? I think so. It's weird, you have a state of permanent dissatisfaction. Right now, I think about this album and I see it as past, I am looking forward to some time, that the promotion mess is over, to make another. And this dissatisfaction is a nuisance, but I guess it is what makes us move forward. The album speaks of love as a story. But at forty years we are no longer idealized, are we? It just happens to me. I'm still the same fool and the same things happen to me. And my friends alike, we are silly. And do you take it for granted? It is hard to say. Maybe it would be easier to live with distance. But I live to feel, I live to make songs and for that I need to have strong emotions. A confession: when I get into spotify I dedicate more energy to looking for old songs than to discover new music. I know that happens a lot, yes. It's hard to keep your head young, don't lose your curiosity. I guess that's getting old. The day that happens to me, I will look for something else.
