Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Wednesday delivered a speech on the military operation launched by his forces in northern Syria.

The process continues
In a speech to lawmakers of the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP), Erdogan said no force could stop its operation in Syria until it achieved its goals.

He said the process would end when Turkey completed the "safe zone" from Manbij to the border with Iraq.

Addressing critics, "If you want to see massacres against civilians, look at Cyprus before the Turkish intervention, and to Palestine, where Muslims are killed on the streets deliberately."

Erdogan also urged Kurdish fighters to lay down their arms and withdraw from the Turkish border. He ruled out any talks with them, criticizing US mediation in this regard.

He stressed that the quickest solution to the Syrian issue is that all gunmen lay down their arms and withdraw outside the "safe zone" in northern Syria tonight.

Russian position
The Kremlin said on Wednesday that the Turkish military operation should not harm the political process in Syria.

At the same time, the Kremlin spokesman said Moscow respects Turkey's right to self-defense.

Iranian statement
Government spokesman Ali Rubaie said his country was aware of Turkey's concerns about securing its southern border, but did not see military operations as the answer.

Rubaie said in a press statement that the recent events proved that it can not rely on the United States, expressing his country's concern about the security of the Kurds in northern Syria.

"We believe that the only solution to ensure security in northern Syria is the stability of the Syrian army in this region, the continuation of the Astana route and the creation of areas of tension reduction.

Security Council
In the same context, the UN Security Council is discussing the Turkish operation today, and the meeting was scheduled to be held today, where Germany asked to discuss the attack on Syria.

The council discussed last Thursday what he called the Turkish attack on Syria behind closed doors, but failed to agree on a joint statement.

Following the meeting, EU member states called for a halt to the Turkish operation.
