Since September 20, the City of Stockholm has been removing electric scooters that have been parked in a traffic hazard or obstruction. In the more than three weeks that the displacement has been going on, 77 electric scooters have been collected and driven to the city's stand. The rental companies can then redeem their vehicles for a fee of SEK 500.

- So far, 45 scooters have been collected. The companies have a month to redeem them, otherwise they will go to the city, says Erik Söderberg, who is the press officer at Stockholm's traffic office.

Looks difference

Although there are not many electric scooters that have been abandoned by the city, Erik Söderberg says that there is a marked difference in how many vehicles are thrown or parked in a dangerous way.

"The biggest and most important effect is that the companies themselves have started to make sure that the bikes are parked properly," he says.

Continues removal

Stockholm will continue to drive off parked electric scooters in the foreseeable future.

- We have not set an end date but will run for as long as needed. But now it's soon winter so we think the number of bicycles will decrease by itself, says Erik Söderberg.
