- We live like this already. Looking at the net result for 2018, we unfortunately went down 17 million minus. The forecast for this year is 8, 8 million minus, so we have already entered this downward spiral. At the same time, we are a municipality that must develop simultaneously and invest, manage schools and such pieces, says the municipal council Börje Natanaelsson (M).

What happens now?

- Already yesterday we in the municipal council decided on restraint in areas such as investments, purchasing and consulting work. It's a way for us to tackle this, says Natanaelsson.

His colleague in Valdemarsvik, the chairman of the municipal council Ted Starkås (S), lives under a similar reality, but in an even smaller municipality.

- We will probably have to make a number of tough decisions. We look at things that we as a municipality offer, but are not obliged to offer initially. We have an ice cream parlor and a bath house ... actually we are too small to have such in municipal government, says Ted Starkås.
