“Earlier, in one of the garages in Orenburg, police discovered more than four thousand turtles illegally brought from the Republic of Kazakhstan,” the message on the website of the Ministry of Internal Affairs said.
It is clarified that during the operational-search measures, law enforcement officers detained a local resident and a citizen of the Central Asian state on suspicion of committing a crime.
The department said that a criminal case was opened on this fact on the grounds of a crime under paragraph 1 of Article 226.1 of the Criminal Code of Russia.
In June, Orenburg customs stopped the illegal import into Russia of more than 4 thousand Central Asian land turtles from Kazakhstan disguised as 7 tons of fresh cabbage.
