When the extensive lock reconstruction is completed in 2021, the Södertalje booths will have new pedestrian and bicycle lanes along both sides of the canal. The design plan for this “patch on the wounds” project is complete, and among other things, Kanalholmen will be connected to the straw via new bridges and thus opened up to the public.

- This is the final of the Mälar project. This means that we fix something in return for being here and stoking. It will be a super lift for Södertälje, says Joar Skott at the Swedish Maritime Administration.

According to the plan, which SVT Nyheter Södertälje has received, in addition to paved pedestrian and cycle paths, 18 so-called so-called places along the roads will be constructed. In addition to seating and planting, it is planned for two outdoor gyms and a boule court on the east side.

The redevelopment was actually completed this year, but due to geotechnical problems was delayed until 2021. The total cost of the project is estimated at SEK 2.7 billion and the walking and cycling roads will cost about SEK 20 million.
