The school is located in Vingåkers municipality in the rural countryside and there are 50 pupils.

When students start in fourth grade, they each get a mobile phone to use freely. They may only have five private apps, without violent games and social media.

"Our phones are tools"

- Since we can control what the students have on their phones here, we do not think it will be a distraction in the same way as if it were about private phones, says teacher Petra Karlsson.

- We think the mobile phones are flexible and want students to learn how to use them. As an adult, you rarely walk around with an iPad in town. We want students to learn how to handle a phone and how to behave in a nice way when communicating.

What do you have to say to people who are critical of using cell phones in school?

- I have full understanding that it can be very complicated with the private phones during lesson time and breaks and I don't think the private phones should be in school. Our phones are tools, says Petra Karlsson.
