Jamila has made the trip with her grandson Arush. She looks exhausted when the bus convoy of refugees stops in Bardarash not far from the border with Syria.

- We had to go for several days. Then we came to the border and there we met Kurdish soldiers who helped us, she says.

Jamila was born in Hasakah, northeastern Syria. She says the situation for civilians there is difficult.

- There was no electricity and no water. We've seen terrible things, ”she says.

Now the Bardarash camp is being reused

A week has passed since Turkey's offensive in northern Syria began. According to the Syrian Human Rights Observatory, more than 70 civilians have been killed and more than 200,000 people forced to flee into northeastern Syria.

Former Iraqis who fled the terrorist organization IS tyranny lived in the Bardarash camp. Now the Iraqis are getting ready to receive large-scale refugees from Syria. More refugees are expected in the next few days.

Riszar Hassan hails from Qamishli in northeastern Syria and has moved with his daughter and wife. The family is relieved to be there, but he says he also has dual feelings.

During the Turkish offensive, the Kurds in Syria were forced to seek protection from the Syrian regime. Rizgar Hassan does not think he will return to his hometown. He believes that the dream of Kurdish self-government Rojava is over.

- The Syrian regime is taking over everything now. They believe that the country is theirs, and they will take full control of the government of what was once Rojava
