In Texas, a police officer was charged with murder and incarcerated on Monday, October 14. On the night of Friday to Saturday, this white American shot a young black woman at her home in Fort Worth, Texas, during a mock check.

This case revives the debate on police violence against African Americans in the United States. Atatiana Jefferson plays video games Friday night with her 8-year-old nephew. To refresh the house, the 28-year-old graduate in biology opens the door.

This door opened for several hours ends up worrying his neighbor who alerts the police. Two agents arrive on the spot. Atatiana then hears noises in her garden and heads for the window. His presence is noticed by one of the police officers who screams " Hands in the air " at full speed before shooting almost immediately. Atatiana Jefferson dies under the eyes of her nephew before help arrives.

The police officer was suspended and resigned. He was charged with murder and incarcerated. Hundreds of people expressed their anger this weekend during a vigil in memory of the victim. The Mayor of Fort Worth felt that to restore public confidence in the police " mere words will not be enough ". The FBI opened an investigation into a possible racist dimension of this act.

" We are all heartbroken today, " Mayor Betsy Price told a news conference. " Nothing can justify what happened, " she continued.
