October 15, 2019Facebook goes ahead with Libra, its virtual currency which should come into circulation in 2020, despite a series of excellent defections like Paypal, eBay, Visa, Mastercard and Booking. The inaugural meeting of the Libra Association was held in Geneva, the consortium that will take care of the cryptocurrency, among the 21 members left after the exodus, who signed the memorandum of incorporation. There are Uber, Lift, Vodafone, Iliad, Spotify, Coinbase and some venture capital companies.

The representatives of these realities - reads a note from the consortium - have become initial members of the Libra Council, which will deal with the governance of the Libra Association. The consortium also makes it known that it has had expressions of interest from 1,500 companies, 180 of which meet the preliminary criteria for entering the project. The Libra Council, explains the consortium note, has also appointed a board of directors, of which five members are members: Matthew Davie (Kiva Microfunds); Patrick Ellis (PayU); Katie Haun (Andreessen Horowitz); Wences Casares (Xapo Holdings) and David Marcus, former president of PayPal at the head of Messenger and Calibra, the subsidiary of Facebook that deals with currency.
