  • Balance: Six international drug trafficking organizations disjointed and 85 arrested

Agents of the National Police of La Linea have arrested 21 people for the illegal construction of luxury, unauthorized housing on specially protected land in this municipality of Cadiz.

The intervention has been carried out in Cartagena Street, located in the Polígono del Zabal, an area where a large number of buildings have been built that have been built without the necessary urban planning permits and in areas of special protection of nature.

During the last two years the police have carried out numerous investigations to locate goods and properties that may derive from the benefits that drug trafficking networks obtain from the sale of drugs and tobacco smuggling, which can be used to hide and at the same time launder the significant sums of money they get from their illegal activity.

The detainees in this action are the owners of farms that were on protected land. They had divided the agricultural land into plots of 800 square meters, raising luxury homes there without having any permission to do so.

The investigation began when agents received information about the proliferation of buildings in El Zabal that belonged to people linked, in one way or another, to drug trafficking. In addition to the houses, they had built landscaped annexed areas and with all the equipment such as swimming pools, outdoor bathrooms, barbecues and others.

After the arrest and judicial provision of these people, the National Police together with the Office of the Environment Prosecutor and the collaboration of the Department of Urban Planning of the City of La Linea, have adopted measures aimed at returning the affected area to legality. These activities, remember the competent authorities, pose a risk to protected areas to which we must add the danger arising from mass construction and are control.
