This year, the award highlighted how economic efforts can alleviate global poverty. The award was presented to Abhijit Banerjee, Esther Duflo and Michael Kremer. Hubert Fromlet, an affiliate professor at Linnaeus University, thinks everyone was a worthy winner but is particularly pleased that Esther Duflo received the award.

- I am very pleased. I think the Nobel Prize committee chose the right area, development economics and field experiments, but I am particularly pleased that it became a woman again, the second woman ever to receive the award, while she is the youngest economist to date, says professor Hubert Fromlet.
