The Government has made a first assessment of the judgment of the process released today by the Supreme Court warning that the ruling must be "adhered to yes or yes" and ensuring that "it is not appropriate at all to speak of pardons."

The acting Minister of Development, José Luis Ábalos , has also called for "respect" for the decision and insisted that the sentence "be complied with and enforced." "The ruling of the court makes it clear that in Spain the rule of law works and that Justice acts with moderation, temperance and rigor. Congratulate us that you are not carried away by any kind of passion or pressure."

Ábalos has called "the responsibility" of the Catalan independence leaders, whom I urge to think about the welfare of the society they intend to lead. "Things have been made clear and we must take the opportunity to open a new stage."

The socialist leader did not want to pronounce on the possibility of pardons: "It is not appropriate to talk about it at all and the Government does not have that will." Nor has he been in favor of entering the open debate on a general amnesty because this does not correspond either to the moment or to the distinctions he has made to the court among the accused. "Amnesty is not an applicable figure in a normal situation. There is no exception. It is quite the opposite of the meaning of the sentence that details personal responsibility."

After this first assessment, the position of the Government, as announced, will be set by the acting president himself, Pedro Sánchez, who plans to make an institutional statement throughout this morning.
