On Sunday evening, the message came that the Syrian government army would send troops to meet the Turkish forces during the ongoing offensive. At the same time, the last remaining American soldiers left the area.

Now SVT News finds that the Syrian army is about to take over two detention camps in northeastern Syria.
There are tens of thousands of refugees in the detention camps, but also many IS supporters and their families.

Red Cross: "A Nightmare"

Several actors report on the difficult situation in which the people in the detention centers live, with the absence of both food, clean water, toilets and opportunities for healthcare.

- Right now we have a nightmare situation for all refugees in northeastern Syria. In addition to all the refugees in the camps, we have new internal refugees who are fleeing the fighting. We count on hundreds of thousands of refugees, many of whom have fled without anything and have neither clothing, food nor ID documents with them, says Andrei Engstrand Neacsu, director of the Middle East and North Africa unit on the Red Cross.

He also looks with concern at how the fighting is affecting people's living conditions after, for example, Turkey bombed the large water plant in Allouk, northern Syria.

- We are very worried about the risk of not following the laws of war. The water facility supplies 800,000 people in the Hassakah region with water is no longer functional. It is now completely empty. It also affects refugee facilities that get their water from there, including al-Hol. If the water system is not repaired, there may be an acute shortage of water.

IS supporters should have moved

Over 130,000 people have fled their homes since the offensive began and the number of civilian casualties is rising. On Sunday, there were also reports that about 100 IS women and their children have moved from the Ain Issa camp, also in northeastern Syria.

The sixth day of the offensive

The Turkish offensive began after the US announced its decision to withdraw its forces from the area. A decision that received a lot of criticism, even from within the country.
