"It is absolutely not good and that is why we have done an internal investigation and prepared an action plan for how we can strengthen all parts of our telephony," says Åsa Hessel, crisis management manager at Region Sörmland.

It was in the spring that the region discovered the telephony problems. Up to August this year, 26 events have been reported, which is more than a threefold compared to last year.

"It is serious because we are very dependent on our telephony systems," she says.

The hospitals went up in staff position

On three occasions, operational disruptions have led to hospitals going up in staff positions. On one of these occasions, the switch was turned off for five hours. The reason for that is still unclear. The telephony problems have also led to neither staff nor patients being able to call certain businesses.

How do you make sure patients were unable to arrive when they called?

- If you are acutely ill, there are always 112 or that you go to your health center yourself, she says.

The region will now review the agreements they have with various telephony companies and strengthen the routines among the staff.

- We need to make sure we have good systems and redundancy behind the systems, then we need to clarify the reserve routines and make them known within our organization, she says.
