Tougher economic times await. The mantra has echoed from municipality to municipality, which in the autumn submitted proposals for savings.

Ahead of the press conference where the governing alliance - M, C, KD and L - on Monday presented their budget proposal, it was speculated whether the municipality with Halland's lowest municipal tax would need to increase. That will not be the case.

Cuts of SEK 70 million

"The Alliance's ambition is to keep taxes unchanged during the term of office," the draft budget states.

In the sentence after that, it also says that the municipal director will therefore be commissioned until 2021 to make proposals on how the municipality's expenses can be reduced by SEK 70 million.

- We see that the boom that has been going on for many years is leveling out, says Ann-Charlotte Stenkil (M).

Doubling the sum

The municipality's various operations in Varberg are continuously living with a demand from politicians to find efficiency improvements corresponding to one percent of the budget - that is, SEK 35 million. The new budget proposal therefore doubles that sum.

The activities that may be affected by it are not determined.
