The Rwandan president will be in Bangui on Tuesday, October 15, where he will hold talks with his Central African counterpart. This is Paul Kagame's first official visit to the Central African Republic since the election of Faustin Archange Touadéra in 2016, even though the two heads of state have already met several times.

Third largest contingent of the Minusca

Purpose of the visit: strengthening bilateral relations. The two heads of state should also launch a joint joint commission, which provides for regular meetings between delegates from both countries.

Rwanda is already an important strategic partner of the Central African Republic. The Rwandan contingent being the third largest contingent in Minusca, with more than 1,300 military and police officers.

With this visit, Kigali seems to pursue a strategy of openness to the countries of French-speaking Africa after having long focused on East Africa. Three years ago, Rwanda reintegrated the Economic Community of Central African States, which it had left in 2007.
