Some countries, such as Germany and France, have already decided to stop selling weapons to Turkey, as the statement notes. The statement also states that "Member States undertake to have strong national positions with regard to their arms export policy to Turkey".

A working group will coordinate and review the positions of the various EU countries. Foreign ministers also want a ministerial meeting to be held within the US-led international coalition against the terrorist movement IS.

According to the AP, EU countries should also prepare sanctions against Turkish representatives and companies involved in the controversial gas extraction in the Mediterranean, outside Cyprus.
