October 14, 2019The government of Ecuador has lifted the state of emergency decreed last October 3, and the subsequent curfew imposed on October 12 in Quito.

This was announced today by the Ecuadorian Ministry of Defense. The decision, a ministerial spokesman said, was made effective by an order given by the head of the joint command of the Armed Forces, General Roque Moreira.

The exceptional measures had been introduced due to the growing protests developed after the signing by President Lenín Moreno of a series of austerity measures, including a decree that cleared fuel subsidies.
