The award was instituted when Sveriges Riksbank celebrated 300 years, 1968, and since then has been an equally obvious element as the other Nobel Prizes. The prize is intended to go to the one that the Committee of the Swedish Riksbank's prize in economic science considers in Alfred Nobel's memory has performed a work of outstanding importance in economic science.

The first prize winners in 1969 were Ragnar Frisch and Jan Tinbergen. They received the award for their development and use of dynamic models too
analysis of economic progress. Since then, a total of 81 people have received the economy prize, of which 80 have been men and one has been a woman.

The Royal Academy of Sciences presents the winner

Last year's award was received by William D. Nordhaus and Paul M. Romer for successfully integrating climate change and technological development into a long-term macroeconomic analysis.

Whoever gets it in 2019 will be presented on Monday by the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences at 11.45.
