Of the total 3,036 moose that may be felled, 597 are female, 510 are male and the remaining calves. Last season, a total of 2,775 moose felled in the county, which is 88 percent of the number that had to be felled.

In Västra Götaland County this year, a record number of license areas became unassigned. This is because the hunting areas concerned did not report last season's elk hunting to the county administrative board in time. But in Jönköping County, all license areas have been awarded moose.

- We have not had the reporting problems they have had in Västra Götaland County. It is a legal requirement to finalize the hunting result and we send out information and reminders to the hunters about this. Västra Götaland County's decision will be a wake-up call, says Ingemar Sjöberg, wildlife conservation officer at the County Administrative Board of Jönköping.

The number of moose that hunters are allowed to trap is determined by, among other things, the moose density, forest damage, feed forecasts, traffic accidents and the presence of predators.

The elk hunt in Jönköping County begins on October 14 and continues through January 31.
