Peace talks between Khartoum and the rebels of the Sudanese states of Darfur (west), South Kordofan (south) and Blue Nile (south-east) are scheduled to resume on Monday in the south-Sudanese capital in the presence of the Sudanese prime minister, Abdallah Hamdok.

Peace talks in Sudan begin Monday (October 14th) in Juba and are expected to last one month, according to what was agreed in the agreement reached in principle on September 11th between the transitional government and the armed movements. These are direct but distinct discussions with two major armed movements.

Sudan is giving itself six months to reach a comprehensive peace agreement with them. Achieving global peace in Sudan is the priority of the transitional government , as Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok has repeatedly said. This is therefore a first step in the negotiations that must lead to comprehensive peace in Sudan.

Separate talks will be held with the Sudan Revolutionary Front, a coalition of three armed movements in Darfur, South Kordofan and Blue Nile. And on the other hand with the Sudan Liberation Movement led by Abdelaziz el Helou.

According to the spokesman of the Sudanese Revolutionary Front, security issues will be particularly difficult to unravel during these negotiations. They will occupy a prominent place in these discussions and are more complex than political or economic issues in war-affected areas.

There is also the thorny issue of the integration of members of armed groups into the Sudanese national army, which would force these movements to abandon the weapons. The decision to incorporate the Rapid Support Forces militia into the army has already been taken and the armed groups expect the same consideration with regard to their men.

Last week, representatives of the armed movements and the government held informal meetings in Addis Ababa, as part of technical workshops held prior to the talks, with legal support and support from the international community.
