The partyless politician Kais Saied won the Tunisian parliamentary elections on Sunday with no less than 76.9 percent of the vote, according to the results of the last exit polls.

Saied had to face Nabil Karoui in the second round of the parliamentary elections. A man who is primarily known as the boss of a large television channel in Tunisia.

Karoui, Saied's opponent was released from prison last Wednesday. Karoui was arrested in August for being accused of fraud and money laundering.

The 56-year-old Karoui was ultimately not convicted. This means that he was allowed to participate in the first round of the presidential election. Karoui says the allegations against him are politically motivated.

56-year-old Saied has spoken out a lot against corruption in the past. Saied does not have its own party, so it has no representatives.
