"It's a big worry that has escalated for a number of years, but now it's extreme," says Johnny Gentzel, who has a small farm on Gräsö.

And he is not alone in experiencing the wild boar as a major problem on Gräsö.

Last Saturday, pictures of ravaged lawns began to appear in Gräsö's Facebook group.

- Many of my friends and neighbors are affected and abandoned. People are cure less. Wild boar has become a nuisance, many are leaving to go out into the woods too - they are scared, says Johnny Gentzel.

"A growing problem"

Johhny Gentzel thinks that this is a problem that "someone from above" must address. And he accepts from the county administrative board that the wild boar is a growing problem.

- We are well aware of the problems. Wild boar strain increases. We have had fairly mild winters and that benefits the wild boar, says Lennart Nordvarg, head of the environmental department at the county administrative board in Uppsala county.

- We look at it seriously. We try to inform hunters and landowners that it is important to add the mane and chase as much as possible.

He adds that it is now basically free to shoot wild boar at any time during the year, but that hunters can still go for it because it is expensive to take trichin and cesium samples, which is mandatory if you want to sell the meat.

- It is debated whether to introduce some form of state hunting, but not all landowners are fond of it, says Lennart Nordvarg.
