"American troops in the vicinity of Koban were hit by shelling from Turkish positions ... There are no wounded among the US military," the statement said.
At the same time, the Pentagon noted that the shelling took place outside the security zone, in the area of the presence of US forces, "what the Turkish military knew."
"The US continues to oppose Turkey’s military operation in Syria and strongly objectes to Turkey’s military operations outside the security zone and in areas where, as the Turkish military knows, US forces are present," the US defense department said.
Washington called on Ankara to abandon actions that could lead to an “immediate defensive reaction.”
