In the run-up to the election of the party leader of the Republicans, the political scientist Pascal Perrineau believes, at the microphone of Europe 1, the Republican right can find its salvation in the territorial anchorage.

ANALYSIS

Since Saturday 8 pm, the 131,000 voters Republicans (LR) are called to vote to elect their party leader. Whether they travel to a polling station or do it online, they have to choose from Christian Jacob, Guillaume Larrivé and Julien Aubert.

The party is currently experiencing serious difficulties according to the political scientist Pascal Perrineau, present on Europe 1 Saturday night. "In some circles, Republicans have disappeared, this is the case among 35-49 year olds, employees or intermediate professions."

"In Europe, the electorate LR voted LREM"

Emmanuel Macron, who tries to supplant traditional parties by positioning himself "above", led to the explosion of the right while the left is also in decline. "Just look at the European elections last May", Pascal Perrineau analysis, "the electorate LR voted The Republic in March (LREM)".

The right is caught with the temptation to join LREM on the one hand and the Rassemblement Nationale (RN) on the other. All is not lost according to Pascal Perrineau. For him, the idea of Senate President LR, Gerard Larcher, to turn to the territories to restore the image of the right is a very good idea. Specifically, Gérard Larcher wants to propose to the candidates invested by LR a label "France territories" that would allow these candidates to come under the label "Miscellaneous right".

"The president and LREM have not convinced on the territorial anchorage"

"This idea is full of common sense.Where the problem lies with Emmanuel Macron and those who support it is the issue of territories. From 2017, the president and LREM have not convinced on the territorial anchorage, the role of local elected officials, the department, the region, municipalities, intercommunalities. For the Republican right, there remains a fight to be fought.

He concludes: "This idea of recharging oneself in the territories, for a party that still has many local elected representatives, is certainly an idea that can have a future". For the right therefore, beyond the renewal of its political personalities, we must look at the renewal of ideas. As a reminder, the one who will be elected at the head of the party will not be presidential in 2022, according to a new internal rule to the Republicans.
