The US and Chinese governments have closed the first day of the ministerial trade negotiations resumed in Washington. President Trump said “negotiations are going well,” and there is growing interest in whether there is a partial agreement such as the expansion of Chinese imports of American agricultural products.
US Light Heiser Trade Representative and Finance Minister Mnushin finished the first day of ministerial trade negotiations resumed in Washington for the first time in two months with Chinese deputy prime minister Liu Tsuru.
The deal is focused on avoiding raising the 25% tariff to 30%, which has already been added to almost half of the Chinese imports that the US side is planning for next week.
After the first day of talks, President Trump told reporters, “The negotiations are very good. Tomorrow will meet, but I think it will work.” The idea of meeting directly was shown.
The American media said there is a possibility of agreement in some areas, such as China's expansion of imports of American agricultural products, and there is growing interest in whether there is a partial agreement.
However, President Trump also shows that it is desirable to conclude a comprehensive negotiation that includes China's response to infringement of intellectual property rights, so the direction of the negotiation is unpredictable.
