After a sharp rise in August, the number of road deaths dropped in September 2019 compared to the same month of 2018.

The death toll on the roads of metropolitan France fell by 2.8% in September with 313 people killed, 9 less than in September 2018, announced Friday the Road Safety.

This decline, which mainly concerns motorists, takes place after a particularly deadly August with a 17.9% increase in fatalities. The year 2018 ended with a "historic" drop in road deaths in mainland France (3,248 killed, 3,488 with Overseas).

Mortality among 18-24 year olds

The other indicators are also in the green in September, with a decrease in the number of personal injuries (-3.7%), from 5,370 in 2018 to 5,169 in September 2019, and the number of injuries (-3,4%). 224 people injured less).

Nevertheless, the mortality of 18-24 year olds is on the rise, with 10 more killed than in September 2018. That of other users (pedestrians, cyclists, moped riders and motorcyclists) also rose slightly.

In the third quarter, the road mortality curve remains up compared to 2018 (+ 4%, ie 35 people killed more). Thus, 931 people died against 896 in 2018. This quarterly increase concerns mainly motorists, with 28 killed more, pedestrians and young people (26 killed in addition).
