It's time for the "Norwegian Nobel Committee" to say: Who or which of the more than 300 nominees will be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize 2019?

Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg is one of the foremost favorites along with, among others, Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and the Reporters Without Borders organization.

According to Alfred Nobel's last will and testament, the prize is to be awarded to those who " have made humanity the greatest benefit ". The prize has been awarded in Oslo since 1901, when Sweden and Norway were a union. The award winner is the Norwegian monarch.

MPs and professors

To nominate someone for the Nobel Peace Prize requires no special invitation, but is reserved for members of national parliaments and governments as well as sitting heads of state. In addition, members of the international court in The Hague, university professors and rectors, as well as persons and organizations that have previously been awarded the prize, can nominate candidates.

The complete list of persons and organizations that have been nominated for the Peace Prize will only become public after 50 years. This is in accordance with the Nobel statutes and the Peace Prize Committee's rules.
