by Tiziana Di Giovannandrea 11 October 2019For Alitalia, revenues and passengers for the company's intercontinental sector continue to grow in September for the twenty-third consecutive month.

Alitalia recorded an 1.8% increase in revenues on intercontinental routes and an increase in passengers transported by 3.6% compared to the same month in 2018. In September the number of passengers transported was 267.575. As regards the turnover from passenger traffic, it is equal to 259.7 million euros (-2.7% on the same month of 2018), held by the reduction in capacity on domestic flights (-11.2%) mainly linked to the closure of Milan Linate airport for works.

Altogether, Alitalia transported 1,951,191 passengers during the month, with an aircraft filling rate of 81.6%, a slight increase compared to September 2018.

In the first nine months of 2019, revenues from passenger traffic saw an increase of 1.4% compared to the previous year, due to the excellent performance of the intercontinental sector which recorded an increase in revenues over the same period at 4.3%.

With regard to liquidity as at 30 September, it amounted to 310 million euros (to which must be added the deposit with IATA), against 361 million euros at the end of August. The reduction of 51 million euros is mainly due to the decrease in the volume of prepaid tickets, in line with the normal seasonality of the sector.

In the January-September period of this year Alitalia is confirmed as the second most punctual airline in Europe with 82.5% of flights landed on time. FlightStats certifies it, an authoritative independent US company that ranks the punctuality of the main world carriers, comparing the data of companies comparable in size and network.

Despite the excellent results and the offer of the Delta Company that aims to invest around 100 million euros (109.8 million dollars) for the relaunch operation of the Newco, the rescue of the airline remains in doubt. Minister Stefano Patuanelli has closed the possibility of a new bridge loan and maintains the date of October 15th as deadline for the presentation of the binding offer by Fs.

Meanwhile, the Italian Civil Aviation Authority ( ENAC) has entrusted Alitalia with traffic rights to fly to Tokyo Haneda airport starting March 29, 2020. Starting from this date, the daily Rome-Tokyo connection of Alitalia will land and take off from Haneda airport, which is about 20 kilometers south of the capital of Japan, instead of from Narita airport, located about 70 kilometers east of Tokyo. For Alitalia passengers - underlines the Company in a note - the transfer times with the city will be greatly reduced, also thanks to the dense network of public transports used by Haneda airport.
