“The Kurds are fighting for their land, just to make you understand, they are fighting for their land, and someone wrote about this in a very powerful article: they did not help us in World War II, they did not help us, for example, in Normandy”

Trump added that the United States spent "huge money" on helping the Kurds, including their weapons and ammunition.

“With all this, we like the Kurds, they are again mushrooms, they have different factions,” the president said.

Earlier, Trump called Turkey’s decision to launch a military operation in Syria a “bad idea”, promising to continue to send material assistance and weapons to the Kurds.

At the same time, US Republican Senator Lindsay Graham accused Trump of “shamelessly abandoning the Kurdish allies of the United States,” which are located in northern Syria.
