According to the survey, Jönköping has the best economic and demographic conditions among the cities that are ranked.

Fredrik Bergström is a Doctor of Economics and Business Area Manager at WSP.

- We have chosen to look at factors that are important for a city's future and long-term development. Jönköping has a fairly large population, decent income and so on. When we weighed all variables together, Jönköping was ranked as one, says Fredrik Bergström, PhD in economics and business area manager at WSP.

Munksjö city

He highlights the development on Lake Munks as a good example of how the city has developed lately.

- A lot has happened in Jönköping and exciting things happen, for example, at Munskjön, I have seen, with all the buildings there.

The consulting company has ranked the city centers on the basis of ten different parameters and created an index they call the city barometer index. But Stockholm, Gothenburg and Malmö have not been included in the survey, as the cities are considered to have too much advantage over the others.

Butiksdöd

In recent years, a large number of stores have been forced to strike again in central Jönköping, partly as a result of e-commerce. But what has sometimes been described as store death in black headlines has not impaired Jönköping's future prospects, according to Fredrik Bergström:

- Historically, there has been a major focus on only strengthening trade in the city centers. We believe that it is important to realize that urban development is about strengthening the city as a whole and also strengthening the surrounding region. If things are going well for the city, things are going well for the region and vice versa.

- When reality starts to look different in different places and you do not experience the other's reality then it can of course be a breeding ground for conflicts, says Charlotta Mellander professor of economics. Photo: SVT / TT
