The European Commission rejects the candidacy of Sylvie Goulard.

Sylvie Goulard, former French minister appointed by President Emmanuel Macron to sit in the future European Commission, saw his candidacy rejected on Thursday by a large majority in a vote of MEPs, AFP learned from parliamentary sources.

Among the MEPs called to speak, 82 voted against, 29 for and one abstained, according to the same sources. Two investigations are under way, one by the French justice system, the other by the EU anti-fraud office (Olaf), on the participation of Mrs. Goulard in a system of fictitious jobs for her party, the MoDem (center).
