In its response to the municipal referral response, the Swedish Transport Administration writes that “ We base ourselves on proven research studies from both Swedish and foreign sources. Studies on crash violence show that 80 km / h is the maximum speed at which two cars of high safety standards can withstand a collision without too serious consequences. "

SVT has previously reported on how the relevant municipal councils, including Patrik Nilsson (S) in Robertsfors, opposed the proposal to lower the speed on roads that do not have center separation. Instead, he wants to see the roads paved and believes that there is political agreement for the criticism.

- You can understand the basis of the proposal in terms of strengthening road safety, but it is about the EU's worst European road. Then you can't hide behind speed cuts, says Nilsson.

"Shows how crazy the road is"

One aspect of the whole is that trucks are already limited to 80 km / h, while motorists are allowed to drive at 90. This creates an uneven traffic rhythm that can lead to dangerous situations. However, the municipal council thinks that the basic problem is the quality of the road and points to differences in the number of accidents depending on the road.

- You can discuss traffic rhythm and other things, but today we see how we have many more accidents on the way north towards Skellefteå than south. It shows how crazy the road is right now. The reason should be to work to expand and secure the roads - not to slow down.

How do you relate to the Swedish Transport Administration's decision to proceed with the proposal?

- As I interpret it, we agree in large parts of the county regardless of party affiliation. We must talk to each other and in some way act together.
