The reason for the breach of the agreement is that Växjö Municipality has demanded that the pensioners, as a consideration, perform voluntary work on the municipality's elderly housing.

- We can't stand it. We already do so much voluntary work. This is completely impossible, says Eva-Britt Svensson, chairman of PRO Växjö.

For over 30 years, Växjö's pensioners have been running the farm Wilhelmshill in the summer at the bathing place in Evedal in Växjö, where they have had daily activities.

- All pensioners who have worked out here at Wilhelmshill ideally for 30 years feel that their work has not received any appreciation from the municipality, says Eva-Britt Svensson.

"The municipality's cash register is not infinite"

With the new agreement, Växjö Municipality wants to save money in order to cope with a higher rent for the new Pensioners' house to be built at Hofs Park.

- The municipality's cash register is not infinite. We have to turn and turn on every tax crown right now. In this case, we thought it was reasonable to work on taking in a little more rent but also to introduce a consideration, says Anna Tenje (M), chair of the local council.

Others want to take over Wilhelmshill

Until next summer, no one is keeping the old Wilhelmshill wholesaler villa open, but according to Anna Tenje (M), there are other stakeholders who have heard from. The house was donated to the town of Växjö at the end of the 19th century and according to the gift certificate it should be used for public benefit.

- The gift letter stipulates certain special requirements, so if someone wants to buy Willhelmshill and for example open cafe, it is not possible, says Anna Tenje (M).
