Food, water and flashlights. Radio, batteries and first aid kit. US electricity company Pacific gas and electricity, PG&E, is conducting a planned power outage on Wednesday that affects more than 800,000 of its customers in 34 counties - and in a post on Twitter they provide their survival tips.

"We tell our customers that they need to prepare for a break that can last for several days," Tamar Sarkissian, spokesman for PG&E, told Reuters news agency.

Fire hazard warnings

According to the company, the power outage is a safety precaution due to a prevailing fire risk in parts of California. The latest weather forecasts point to strong winds and low humidity, writes The Guardian. The plan is to turn off the power during Wednesday's early hours, local time, and there is no forecast as to how long it will last. It states PG&E on its website.

The outages are reported to include both households and businesses in the northern and central parts of California.

The electricity company caused a fatal fire

The American electricity company Pacific gas and electricity has its eyes on the so-called Camp fire fire, the deadliest forest fire in California's history that took over 80 lives. In May this year, the fire department Cal Fire presented the results of their investigation into the fire - and determined that Camp fire was caused by electricity lines owned and operated by PG&E, Reuters writes.

State Cal Fire has issued the highest possible warning, a red flag, in parts of Northern California to alert about fire risk.

"A single flame can cause a major forest fire," Cal Fire writes on its website.

They also warn, albeit on a slightly lower scale, of fires in the southern parts of the state. The warnings currently apply from Wednesday morning to Thursday evening, local time.
