While Tunisia is still waiting for the full and official results of Sunday's legislative elections to be unveiled on Wednesday, presidential candidate Nabil Karoui - who came second in the first round - is calling for a postponement of the second round scheduled for Sunday (October 13th). The poster must pit him against lawyer Kais Saied, but the businessman and media are still in detention on suspicion of tax evasion and money laundering.

His lawyers filed an appeal Tuesday morning with the administrative court of Tunis. Information confirmed on the phone by Abdelaziz Belkhodja, spokesman for Nabil Karoui. He alleges a breach of equality of opportunity while the candidate remains in detention since 23 August. No campaign therefore for him. Observers deployed by the European Union on Tuesday noted a campaign of silence, because his opponent Kais Said announced Saturday that he refuses to fight campaign in the name of precisely equal opportunities.

Anyway, this new appeal filed is the logical continuation of the strategy of camp Karoui as recalled a statement published on Tuesday. On 30 September, they first seized Isie, the election authority, so that the businessman could move freely and make direct contact with the media.

They have not been heard and are moving to the next stage. But be careful, the spokesman specified that this request for postponement of the second round is not correlated to a possible withdrawal of Nabil Karoui, as we sometimes read on the internet. For its part, the administrative court confirms having received the appeal, but does not say however in what time period it will be treated.
