08 October 2019 "This initiative of France, Germany, Italy and Malta is on the table. I believe that all Member States should show more responsibility and take part in this common effort. We cannot go on like this, with what is happening in the Mediterranean, we cannot go ahead with ad hoc solutions, says European Commissioner for Migration, Dimitri Avramopoulos, arriving at the Interior Council in Luxembourg.

"We can no longer continue with what is happening in the Mediterranean - adds Avramopoulos - we need a permanent mechanism, what has been proposed in Malta is a temporary mechanism for at least the next six months. Today is the day when states have the opportunity to show more responsibility and solidarity ". Avramopoulos added: "Migration should not prevail in the national debate".
